
Gladiators fall to Stingrays in OT, 5-4

The Gladiators remain unbeaten at home this season (5-0-2) and drop to 11-2-2- as they fall to the South Carolina Stingray 5-4 in overtime at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Thursday night.
The Stingrays jumped out to a 1-0 lead 25 seconds into the first period as Jim Lorentz fired the puck into an unguarded net as Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett got caught out of the cage. Ed Courtenay and Robin Gomez added assists on the goal.
Jim Jackson tied the contest up at a goal apiece as he jammed a puck past South Carolina goaltender David Brumby at 4:29 of the first period. Kris Goodjohn added an assist on the goal while Mike Vigilante extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games with an assist on the power play goal.
Chris Allen regained the lead for the Stingrays as he beat Garnett on a one timer at 8:41 of the first period. Curtis Huppe and Colin Johnson added the assists on the goal.
Cam Brown tied the game up at 2-2 when he rolled a wrap around try up the body of David Brumby and into the net at the 15:05 mark of the first period. Kevin Doell added an assist on the goal as he slid the puck up the wall to Brown.
The Gladiators took the lead 18 seconds into the second period as Anthony Aquino whacked a loose puck into an empty net as David Brumby was caught out of the net on as the puck took a weird bounce. Brad Peddle added an assist on the goal.
Chris Durno extended the Gladiators lead to two goals, as he was able to punch a centering pass back behind Brumby at 3:26 of the second period. Brandon Dietrich picked up his 14th assist of the season on the goal.
South Carolina cut the lead back to one goal as Curtis Huppe was able to jam a puck past Garnett at 7:56 of the second. Andy Power picked up a helper on the tally.
Mike Jickling's bouncing puck that slipped over the shoulder of Garnett tied the game up at four goals apiece. His unassisted tally came with 1:07 remaining in the second period.
Matt Desrosier scored the game winner 29 seconds into overtime as he ripped a slap shot past Garnett on the power play. Aaron Power added an assist on the goal.
Michael Garnett made 31 saves for the Gladiators in the loss and falls to 7-2-0 on the season. The Gladiators picked up another power play goal while going 1-4 on the man advantage.
The Gladiators host the Greenville Grrrowl on Saturday at 7:35p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. It is team photo night and the first 2,000 fans receive a team photo courtesy of ajcJobs.com and the Gladiators.
