Reading Royals News Release

Trenton, NJ - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (33-28-3-473, 3rd Atlantic Division), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, defeated the Trenton Titans (21-38-3-651, 4th Atlantic Division), 7-0, at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey. Reading struck just over a minute into the game and never looked back to push the team's record to five games over .500 for the first time this season with the team's third shutout of the year.

Reading's Mark Owuya (win, 14-5-1-2, 35/35) registered his first shutout as a Royal in his twenty-third game for the Royals-and his eleventh consecutive start. Trenton's Dave Caruso (loss, 12-24-3-2, in 28:48) started and sustained his first loss to the Royals this year (2-1-0-0). Brad Phillips (no decision 21/24 in 31:12) came on in substitution for his ninth appearance against Reading this year. The Royals power play broke through on a four-on-three skater advantage early in the third to make it 6-0 (1-6). The Royals penalty killers kept the Titans power play off the board in four chances with the man advantage (0-4).

The scoring started early for the Royals, when Denny Urban punched back his own rebound from the top of the crease 1:01 into the game. 3:02 after that, it was Yannick Riendeau breaking a ten game goal scoring streak with a tic-tac-toe give-and-go with Urban at the top of the crease which ended when Riendeau finished into a virtually empty net for his tenth of the year.

The Royals stretched the lead to 3-0 6:44 into the second, when Mikael Bedard pick-pocketed a Trenton defender in front of the Titan net and turned and blew it by Caruso. 2:04 later, Yannick Tifu deflected a Yannick Riendeau shot from the top of the right circle by Caruso for his twentieth of the year. That goal chased Caruso. Twenty-five seconds later-on the first shot seen by Phillips-Olivier Labelle finished a weak-side feed from Bedard off the rush to make it 5-0 with his twenty-seventh of the year.

The Royals added a pair in the third-a power play goal by Urban 6:39 in and an unassisted bullet by Riendeau at 13:31-but that was far more than would be needed in this one as the Royals bagged their league-leading twenty-first road win of the season.

The Royals and Titans face off for the third consecutive time tomorrow (Sunday, March 25, 2012 @ 4:05 pm) at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The first 1000 kids 12 and under will receive a replica V&M Towing Warm-Up Jersey courtesy of V&M Towing. It's also a Family Day at the Sovereign Center with a post-game autograph session with the entire team. Sunday's game night broadcast will start at 3:35 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
