Aces Edge Reign 4-3 for Dramatic Win

Dan Kissel broke a 3-3 tie in the final minute of regulation to lead the Alaska Aces to a 4-3 regulation win over the Ontario Reign on Friday night from the Citizens Business Bank Arena. Kissel's game-winner came on the shift after the Ontario Reign had evened the score with 1:01 to play. The Aces win increased their lead to five points over Ontario in the Western Conference standings, and lowered Alaska's magic number to clinch the Brabham Cup for the league's best record to six points. The Aces improved to 42-16-9 on the season, climbing to 93 points. The Aces and Reign meet once again on Saturday night in a rematch of the top two teams in the ECHL. The Aces dominated play in the opening period outshooting the Reign 17-5 in the frame. On their 15th shot they finally broke through when Chad Anderson's shot from the right point went through a screen and gave Alaska a 1-0 lead at 17:10. 14 seconds later the Aces made it 2-0 when Garry Nunn scored off of a Nick Mazzolini wraparound. Ontario got on the board at 18:59 of the period from Derek Couture as Alaska took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission break.

Early in the second period Tristan King snuck a puck through Gerald Coleman to even the score at 2-2 in a period when Ontario outshot Alaska 9-8.

The score held until late in the third period when Chris Langkow scored a rebound goal at 13:17 to give the Aces the lead once again at 3-2. With the Aces trying to hang on in the closing minutes, Ontario tied the score on a scramble in front from Kyle Kraemer at 18:59. With overtime looming as almost a certainty, the Aces responded on the ensuing shift. Kissel scored his 35th goal of the season at 19:08, moving into a tie for the ECHL goal scoring lead to give Alaska the dramatic regulation victory.

Gerald Coleman (18-4-2) earned the win in his return to the Aces linup, making 22 saves on 25 shots. J.F. Berube (15-10-4) suffered the loss, stopping 35 of 39 shots. The Aces power play went 0-5, while the Reign went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Reign 39-25 in the game.
