Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

JUNE 8, 2006, 7:05 p.m. : OMAHA ROYALS (25-34) vs. Oklahoma RedHawks (27-32)

HOME: 16-15 (35-37 in '05) AWAY: 9-19 (37-35 in '05) vs. Oklahoma: 0-0 (7-9 in '05)

TONIGHT: The Royals host the Oklahoma RedHawks in a 7:05 p.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium in the opener of a 4-game homestand. Omaha is coming off a 2-2 trip to Round Rock. It's Thursty Thursday, with drink specials courtesy of Miller Brands and Z-92. Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST GAME: Aaron Guiel and Chad Allen each had 3 hits Tuesday night to help lead the Royals to a 5-3 win at Round Rock. Guiel tripled, doubled and singled, scoring 2 runs and coming up a home run shy of a cycle. Allen extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single in the 1st inning and belted his 7th home run of the season in the 6th inning. Eddie Yarnall (2-1) got the win, allowing a run in 1.2 innings. Steve Andrade worked 4.0 innings of 1-run relief and Joe Nelson worked a perfect 9th inning to record his 4th save.

ROYALS REPORT: Nelson, who has arguably been the best pitcher for both Omaha and KC this season, has not allowed a run in 7.0 innings over his last 5 Omaha appearances. He has notched 3 saves in that stretch, which dates back to May 10. In the middle of that streak, Nelson posted a 1.08 ERA in 8 appearances for KC in May. *** Allen is hitting .453 (24-53) over his team-best 13-game hitting streak. The homer Tuesday night was his 1st in his past 14 games, but he does have 8 RBI during the hit string. *** Guiel had been 1-for-11 in his 1st 5 games back from KC prior to his outburst Tuesday night. He needed a home run in one of his final 2 at-bats Tuesday to become the first Royal to hit for the cycle since Jarrod Patterson turned the trick on May 22, 2003 vs. Oklahoma. But, Guiel struck out in the 6th and flied to left in the 8th. *** The Royals won Tuesday night despite matching a season high by leaving 11 runners on base. In the 4 game series at Round Rock, Omaha stranded 33 runners. *** Former Omaha right-hander Bobby Keppel appeared to be in line for his 1st Major League win last night. Keppel left to a standing ovation after allowing a leadoff single in the 9th and KC ahead 2-0. Texas rallied for 4 runs and a 4-2 victory, leaving the 23-year old Keppel with an 0-1 record despite a 2.11 ERA in his 1st 4 games (2 starts). *** Kyle Snyder was called up by KC today and will start tonight's game vs. Texas. Snyder was 0-4 in 10 games (9 starts) for Omaha. However, he posted a 3.88 ERA and walked only 9 batters, while striking out 43, in 60.1 innings. In other moves today, KC purchased the contract of former St. Louis Cardinals lefty Donovan Osborne and assigned him to Omaha. Osborne was pitching with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League, going 2-1 with a 2.64 ERA in 7 starts. He's expected to start for Omaha on Sunday. Andrade was sent to Double-A Wichita, David Elder was placed on the disabled list retroactive to yesterday and Chris Clapinski was activated from the DL.

STARTERS: LH Derek Lee (1-2, 3.95) vs. RH Runelvys Hernandez (2-2, 7.25)

Hernandez makes his 5th start of the season for Omaha. Last Friday, Hernandez was very impressive in his 1st start back from KC, pitching Omaha to a 5-1 win over New Orleans (8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K). With KC, Hernandez made 7 starts and went 1-4 with a 7.44 ERA. He was 0-3 with a 10.89 ERA in his final 5 outings with the parent club. Hernandez opened this season with Omaha, going 1-2 with a 10.67 ERA in 3 starts. In 2005, Hernandez made 29 starts for KC, after missing the 2004 season due to Tommy John surgery. He was 8-14 with a 5.52 ERA, setting career highs in wins, losses, starts and innings pitched (159.2). His 8 wins led KC, marking the fewest wins by the team leader in club history. He was 6-9 with a 4.53 ERA prior to the All-Star break last season, but went 2-5 with a 7.69 ERA in the 2nd half. Hernandez was originally signed by KC as a non-drafted free agent in January 1998 out of the Dominican Republic.

PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES:

Fri., 7:05: RH Robinson Tejada (1-2, 4.24) vs. RH Brian Boehringer (0-1, 1.54)

Sat., 6:05: RH Edinson Volquez (3-5, 4.48) vs. LH J.P. Howell (3-2, 5.76)
