December 9, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (2nd Atlantic Division, 13-7-0-026), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, were defeated by the South Carolina Stingrays (4th South Division, 10-12-1-021), 4-0, at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals were unable to formulate a credible response to the solid and sustained attack of the Stingrays, as Reading was shutout for the first time this season. Goaltender Matt Dalton (loss, 7-5-0-0, 24/28) did not have the support needed to pull this one out. South Carolina's Todd Ford (win, 5-3-0-0, 26/26) did not show any weakness in the few offensive opportunities generated by the Royals. Reading was held off the board on the power play for the twelfth time this year (0-4). The only bright spot of the game for Reading might have been the penalty kill, which was perfect including 1:27 of five-on-three against (0-5).

South Carolina got all they would need with just 25 seconds left in the first period, when David deKastrozza got his own rebound out of the left circle and lifted a back-hand over Dalton and several of his Reading teammates who were piled up in front of the Royals' net. DeKostrozza gave the Stingrays some insurance early 3:27 into the second when he fired a snap shot off the rush from deep in the left circle that beat Dalton to the far side for deKostrozza's sixth of the season. In the third, the Stingrays got two more early in the period from Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Grant McNeil; but that would than they would need in this one as the Royals were unable to muster any type of credible come-back effort.

The Royals and Stingrays go at it again on Saturday afternoon (December 11, 2010 @ 1:05) at the Sovereign Center, when the Royals will host the annual Teddy Bear Toss and the Holiday Ham Shoot. The Royals game night broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 12:35 pm.
