Jackals Player to Volunteer for Phone-A-Thon Tonight

Elmira Jackals defenseman Brennan Turner will answer phones this evening from 5 - 6:30 p.m. on WETM-TV for the United Way of the Southern Tier's second annual Phone-A-Thon. WETM-TV will air coverage of the Phone-A-Thon during 18 News at 5 and 6.

Turner is in his second season with the Jackals and is noted for his work in the community as well as his membership in the volunteer organization Hockey Players For Kids .

Individuals looking to donate money to the United Way of the Southern Tier may call (607) 733-4727 in between 5 and 6:30 p.m. tonight. Those unable to watch the Phone-A-Thon on WETM-18 may also donate to the United Way of the Southern Tier online at UWST.org or by mail to 300 Nasser Civic Center Plaza, Suite 220, Corning, NY 14830.

United Way is attempting to raise $4.6 million in 2010. All money raised this year will be invested in health and human services programs and initiatives in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

The Jackals are back at First Arena to host the Trenton Devils on Friday and Saturday, with both games starting at 7:35 p.m. Friday's game is Teddy Bear Toss and 4 for $44 night, while Saturday's game is Toys for Children night. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to throw onto the ice when Elmira scores its first goal on Friday. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to children at local hospitals by Jackals players. The first 100 fans to bring a toy to donate to children on Saturday will receive a t-shirt courtesy of the Pembrook Pines Media Group.
