
Royals Dropped by Blazers

Victoria, BC - In a Saturday night contest at Interior Savings Centre, the Victoria Royals squared off against the Kamloops Blazers. The Royals started Patrik Polivka in net, while the Blazers gave the nod to Cole Cheveldave.
Kamloops opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period on a powerplay marker from Tim Bozon. JC Lipon snapped a shot from the left point that deflected off Colin Smith and over to Bozon on the right post who buried it past Polivka. The Blazers extended their lead to 2-0 when Matt Needham found the back of the net at the 14:08 mark. Marek Hrbas' point shot squeaked between Polivka's legs before Needham banged home the loose puck in the crease. Kamloops added two more goals at the end of the period when they were awarded a four-minute powerplay. Jordan DePape and Smith each netted a goal with the man advantage to send the Blazers into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead.
Victoria got on the score sheet at 7:03 of the middle frame when Jamie Crooks picked up his fifth goal of the season. Steven Hodges centered a pass from behind the net before Crooks shoveled it home in front. The Royals cut the lead in half just before the end of the second period on a marker from Brandon Magee. The Victoria forward skated into the Blazers' zone and fired a shot from the right wing that beat Cheveldave blocker side. After two periods of play, Kamloops held a 4-2 lead.
The Royals forced the issue throughout the third period, but the Blazers extended their lead when Smith netted his second goal of the game at 18:05 of the final frame. Bozon fired shot off Polivka in front before Smith jumped on the rebound to seal the game. Blazers 5 Royals 2.
Victoria went 0/3 0.0% on the power play, while Kamloops was 3/6 50.0%. The Blazers outshot the Royals 33-27.
The Royals will travel to Portland for a two-game set against the Winterhawks on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. both nights.
