Pats fall to Tigers
October 28, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
First Period
The Pats opened their final game of this road swing on a positive when Dyson Stevenson tipped a Luke Fenske point shot behind Cam Lanigan to put the Pats ahead just two minutes into the contest. The Pats looked much more composed this evening as they handled the aggressive forecheck of the Tigers. Despite a strong period, the Pats couldn't hold Hunter Shinkaruk off the board as he sniped a no-look backhand shot behind Matt Hewitt to even up the game before the break.
Second Period
The middle frame saw the Tigers take their game to another level, outshooting the Pats 18-7 in the period. The Tigers took their first lead of the game just over five minutes in when Dylan Busenius fired a wrist shot from the point that found its way behind Matt Hewitt through a screen. The Tigers kept pressing, but after the media break, the Pats put together a strong shift and Morgan Klimchuk was able to get the game tied up with a snap shot just under the bar. Matt Hewitt was strong in the period helping the Pats get to the break tied at two.
Third Period
The finale of this contest was a wild one as the Tigers and Pats traded powerplay markers in the opening couple of minutes. First it was Shinkaruk tapping in a beautiful pass from Curtis Valk to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Klimchuk responded for the Blue and White with his second of the game to even the count. The Tigers took the lead again and would add to it on goals from Dylan Bredo at 4:38 and Trevor Cox at 17:30 to pick up a two goal lead. That second goal would be key as Colton Jobke scored a powerplay marker with one second remaining on the clock to put the final score at 5-4 in favour of the Tigers.
