Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Tristan Jarry had a 29 save performance and Travis Ewanyk notched the game winner as the Oil Kings posted a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Giants on Sunday. The win combined with a Calgary loss allowed the Oil Kings to take over first place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-3-1-2.
Veteran TJ Foster opened the scoring for the Oil Kings on the end of a nice tic tac toe from line mates Michael St.Croix and Dylan Wruck. The native of Slave Lake buried a top corner wrist shot for his tenth of the season. Oilers draft pick Travis Ewanyk then added his third of the season to make it a 2-0 game. Ewanyk was able to pick a bouncing puck out of mid air in the slot with under 30 seconds left in the first.
Vancouver's Marek Tvrdon scored the only goal of the second period on the power play to make it a 2-1 game. Both teams played a conservative second frame with the visitors leading in shots 24-20 prior to the Oil Kings breakout third period.
Early in the third Latvian forward Edgars Kulda took a great feed from Cody Corbett, streaked in on the breakaway and buried a shot top shelf to make it a 3-1 lead. Kulda also had his first WHL fight earlier in the game when he stood tall against Giants Captain Wes Vannieuwenhuizen.
The Kings continued to feed off each other as Jarry came up with a big save on a 2 on 1 late in the game to preserve the lead. Less than a minute later Mitch Moroz would respond on the other end of the ice. The Oilers draft pick tallied his third of the season on a wrap around to extend the Oil Kings lead to 4-1 and stall any Vancouver momentum. St.Croix added his tenth goal of the season with two minutes to play for his 250th career WHL point.
In the five games he has started Jarry has posted a 3-2-0-0 record with an impressive 1.21 GAA and a 0.948 save percentage. The victory was the Oil Kings fourth in a row as they improved their record to 7-2-0-2 within the friendly confines of Rexall Place.
Next up the Oil Kings will begin November with their annual rodeo road trip as the CFR takes over Rexall Place. Edmonton will play six games on the road starting November 2nd in Prince Albert and ending with a pair of games in Prince George November 9th and 10th. The Oil Kings will return to Rexall Place on November 17th as they play host to Mark McNeill and the Prince Albert Raiders.
Tickets are available at OILKINGS.CA, at the Rexall Place Box Office or at Ticketmaster outlets. For more information on season seats or flex packs, call 780-414-GOAL (4625).
All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca. The Oil Kings 2012-13 season is presented by JLT, Insurance & Risk Management.
