
Blazers Win 12th Straight 5-2 over Royals

Another day, another win for the Kamloops Blazers as they took down the Victoria Royals 5-2 in front of 4858 people on Saturday night to improve to a WHL best 14-0-0-1 on the season.
The Blazers won the game in the first period. Tim Bozon opened up the scoring on the power play as Colin Smith and JC Lipon drew assists 6:06 into the first period to make it 1-0. Matt Needham followed that up with a goal at 14:08 of the period. Jordan DePape made a nice play to Marek Hrbas. His one-timer snuck behind goaltender Patrik Polivka and Needham put it home for his third goal of the season. The Blazers struck twice more in the final two minutes of the third period with two power play goals on a four-minute power play. Jordan DePape put home a rebound to make it 3-0 and Colin Smith tipped home a shot with 1.2 seconds left on the clock as the Blazers led 4-0 through the first period. The Blazers outshot the Royals 14-5 in the period.
The second period was a different story as the Royals took control of the game. They would strike twice as Jamie Crooks found a rebound and put home his fifth of the season at 7:03. Brandon Magee broke in on a three on two and snapped a shot past goaltender Cole Cheveldave with 1:29 left in the period. The Royals outshot the Blazers 17-5 in the period.
In the third period, the Blazers outplayed the Royals and shut them down.. Colin Smith added a late goal finding a rebound, while the Blazers outshot the Royals 14-5 in the period to win 5-2. The Blazers improve to 3-0-0-1 against the Royals this season.
Colin Smith extended his season opening point streak to 15 games with two goals and a helper on the night. Tim Bozon enjoyed a three point night with a goal and two assists, while JC Lipon had two assists in the win. Defenseman Marek Hrbas also had a multi-point night with two assists.
Goaltender Cole Cheveldave improved his record to 10-0-0-0 on the season making 25 saves for the win.
The Blazers recorded their 12th straight victory which is the teams longest winning streak since 1989-90 season when they won 13 straight games, which is a franchise record. The Blazers have twice won 13 games in a row as they first did it during the 1986-87 season.
The hockey club is back at it tomorrow night as they travel to Seattle to face the Thunderbirds at 5:00pm. The short three-game road trip continues with a game on Tuesday night in Everett and on Thursday in Kelowna. The Blazers return home for a game against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, November 2nd.
