Reading Royals News Release

(Reading, PA) – The Reading Royals traded the rights to forward Alexandre Jacques to the Toledo Storm in exchange to the rights for defenseman Matt Snesrud. Snesrud was a 7th round draft choice of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. In his first professional season last year in Baton Rouge, Snesrud scored ten goals and 34 points in just 63 games from the blue line. He was selected to represent the Southern Division in the East Coast Hockey League All Star game in Trenton, New Jersey. Snesrud also appeared in 13 games with the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Coach David Lohrei says this trade brings a lot of solidity to the blue line, "It is tough to give up a player like Alexandre Jacques. He is a fast forward that has proven he can score in this league, but we feel like we have some quality forwards and we felt we needed to solidify our defense. Matt Snesrud solidifies our defense."

The Royals acquired Alexandre Jacques near the end of last season from the Greenville Grrrowl via the Toledo Storm. The trade sent defenseman Simon Tremblay to Greenville for forward Jason Windle, defenseman Kevin Bergin, a player-to-be-named later and future considerations. Jacques was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, Toledo's parent club, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

"Matt Snesrud is a versatile guy. He can play the power play, penalty kill and even strength. He is a solid, solid defenseman that will help better our club," said Lohrei.

The Reading Royals sophomore season faces off in October. Season, half season and group ticket packages are now on sale at the Royals Hockey Headquarters. Now is your chance to "Join the Pride" for the 2002-03 season. Visit the Royals website at www.royalshockey.com or call 610-898-7825. Royals Hockey...Pride!
