Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors have announced the Junior Condors Hockey League will return to Centennial Garden ice this October for its fourth season of operation. The JCHL is an ice hockey league that features professional instruction from Condors players and coaches. In addition, the Condors Power-Skating Camp is scheduled from September 23rd-25th.

The JCHL runs from October to March, and includes 26 on-ice sessions, averaging one per week during the 2002-03 West Coast Hockey League season. Designed for players under 13 years of age, Condors players and coaches will be on the ice with participants, running drills and providing in-depth teaching. Encompassing everything from skating, passing and shooting skills, the JCHL is the only league of its kind in Kern County. Plans are also underway for scheduled matches against other in-house teams in the area.

Registration for the JCHL is currently being accepted, and costs $435 for the entire season. Discounts are available, including a $50 reduction for early registration by September 16th. Members of Colonel Claw'd's Kid's Club receive $15 off, and families with more than one child attending will get an additional $50 discount for each participant. Goaltenders receive half-off the league fee.

The Condors Power-Skating Camp feature two hours of instruction each day by players and coaches. They will teach kids the proper skating techniques and exercise. One hour of the camp will be on-ice, the other will be off-ice, focusing on proper stretching and strengthening techniques. The camp is a perfect lead-in for the JCHL, helping to prepare participants for the hockey season.

"There's one thing that all good hockey players do," said Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly, "and that is skate well. That's what the power-skating camp is all about. The JCHL is a chance for kids to learn the game with instruction from the pros. It's truly a unique opportunity."

The 2002-03 season opener is 39 days away with the Bakersfield Condors hosting the reigning Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons at Centennial Garden on Saturday, October 12th.
