Gavin Morgan Re-Signs

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies announced today that the Dallas Stars, their National Hockey League affiliate, have re-signed center Gavin Morgan to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Morgan, 26, should see action in Utah with the Grizzlies in what will be his fourth season in Salt Lake City. Last season, the Scarborough, Ontario native had eight goals and 24 assists along with a team-leading 249 penalty minutes in 76 games. Morgan had one assist and two penalty minutes in five playoff games last season.

During the 2000-01 season, Morgan had 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) and 187 penalty minutes in 79 games. Morgan played 10 games with the Grizzlies during the 1999-2000 season notching two assists and four penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound center enjoyed a breakout professional season during the 1999-2000 campaign with the West Coast Hockey League's Idaho Steelheads after four collegiate seasons at the University of Denver. In 54 games with the Steelheads, Morgan averaged nearly a point a game with 17 goals and 33 assists along with 150 penalty minutes. His 156-game college career saw him produce 32 goals, 48 assists and 220 penalty minutes.

"I am happy that Gavin re-signed with the Stars," said Grizzlies' Head Coach Don Hay. "He adds a lot of character to the club and we are really looking forward to having his feisty, gritty play in our line-up this season."

Morgan will attend Stars training camp beginning on September 14th in Breckenridge, Colorado. Grizzlies' camp begins on September 24th in West Valley City, Utah.
