Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods and general manager Mike Fitzpatrick announced today equipment manager Scott Moon has been hired by the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League as assistant equipment manager.
Moon, 31, returns to the NHL, where he was assistant equipment manager of the New Jersey Devils in 1992-93. He enters his 15th season of professional hockey. Last season, Moon was selected by his peers to the East Coast Hockey League All-Star Game in Trenton, New Jersey. His equipment manager experience includes six seasons in Orlando of the International Hockey League, highlighted by the 2001 Turner Cup Championship. The native of Utica, New York has also been head equipment manager in his hometown of Utica and in Albany, both of the American Hockey League.
"It's just tremendous. The New York Islanders made an offer, where I've always wanted to be," said Moon. "The sad part is leaving people and an area that I care about a great deal, but I couldn't say no to this opportunity. It's tough to leave the Sea Wolves, with new ownership and the exciting things that are going on this season. The hockey operations staff is the best. But, they'll be alright without me."
"It's a great thing. Scott deserves it. He belongs in the NHL and he's going to have a long career there," said Woods. "It's a huge hole for the Mississippi Sea Wolves to fill, but we'll try to get another equipment manager in the quality of Scott Moon".
Mississippi drops the puck on its seventh season as a member of the East Coast Hockey League on Saturday, October 12 at Baton Rouge. The home opener for the Sea Wolves is at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, October 13 against intrastate rival Jackson.
Parking is free for home games and season ticket prices have been reduced by as much as $50 per seat. Don't wait, buy your season tickets now! For the best seats available, drop by the Sea Wolves hockey office at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum or call 228-275-WOLF (9653).
