Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night match-up at the Enmax Centre, the Victoria Royals squared off against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Royals started Coleman Vollrath in net, while the Hurricanes gave the nod to Ty Rimmer.
Victoria opened the scoring at 18:30 of the first period when Brandon Magee netted his ninth goal of the season. Magee walked into the high-slot and fed a pass to Jamie Crooks on the right wing. Crooks snapped a quick shot on net before Magee buried the rebound over Rimmer's left pad to give the Royals a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Hurricanes got on the board at 11:51 of the middle period on a short-handed marker from Dan Johnston. The Lethbridge defenceman drove wide into the Royals' zone before he cut back to the middle and beat Vollrath high over the glove. Johnston's goal sent the clubs into the final frame tied 1-1.
Macoy Erkamps gave Lethbridge the lead at 5:41 of the third period when he beat Vollrath over the blocker. Erkamps jumped on a loose puck in the slot and wired a slapshot home to give Lethbridge a 2-1 lead. The Royals pulled even when Steven Hodges extended his point-streak to five games at the 12:19 mark. Austin Carroll fed Hodges with a pass from the right wing that he tipped past Rimmer low stick side. Sam McKechnie regained the lead for the Hurricanes when he released a backhand shot that found the top corner to send Lethbridge up 3-2. Victoria pulled their goalie to add an extra attacker in an attempt to even the game, but came up short when Lethbridge potted an empty net goal to seal the victory. Hurricanes 4 Royals 2.
Victoria went 0/6 0.0% on the powerplay, while Lethbridge was 0/5 0.0%. The Hurricanes outshot the Royals 38-32.
