Everett Silvertips News Release
SPOKANE - The Everett Silvertips out-chanced the Spokane Chiefs for much of Saturday night's game at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, but couldn't capitalize on those chances in their second straight shutout defeat by a final tally of 4-0. The Silvertips will now return home looking to snap their losing streak Wednesday night at Comcast Arena against the Red Deer Rebels.
Despite being outshot 35-22 in total, the Silvertips tested rookie goaltender Garret Hughson (2-1-0-0) throughout the game with numerous quality chances. Hughson finished off his first career shutout in third period while his teammates tacked on three goals in the final 13 minutes to break open what was a close game for most of the night.
Everett played a solid first period, generating chances and successfully killing off four Spokane powerplays. The Chiefs did take a 1-0 advantage into the locker room however as the 'Tips turned a puck over in their own zone, allowing Mikulas Rimmel to steal it and score at the 14:35 mark. The Silvertips continued to play well throughout the second frame, outshooting the Chiefs 9-5 and forcing Hughson to make a number of impressive saves. Spokane was able to hold Everett at bay and carry the 1-0 lead into the third.
The Chiefs added to the lead with a pair of goals midway through the final stanza, first by Connor Chartier on a rebound in front and then by Dylan Walchuk shorthanded just over one minute later to make it 3-0. Adam Helewka tacked on another rebound goal later in the period and Hughson did the rest, stopping Reid Petryk on a breakaway and robbing Kohl Bauml on a 2-on-1 rush to preserve the shutout in the last 20 minutes.
Daniel Cotton (5-3-0-0) saw his four-game personal win streak come to an end despite 31 saves in goal for Everett. The Silvertips killed off all four Spokane powerplays in the game while finishing 0 for 2 on their own man-advantage.
The Silvertips will now return to Comcast Arena for a single home game as the Red Deer Rebels out of the Eastern Conference make a rare visit to Everett Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The 'Tips will then play at the Tri-City Americans on Friday night.
Season tickets, mini-game packages and single-game tickets for the Silvertips' 10th Anniversary season at Comcast Arena are on sale now.
