Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Kamloops, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings took a 2-1 victory over the number one ranked team in the nation on Tuesday night. The defending WHL Champions evened the season series with the Kamloops Blazers in another exciting back and forth match up between two of the league's best. The loss was the Blazers first at home and only their second regulation defeat of the 2012-13 season.
Edmonton didn't waste any time as Mitch Moroz opened the scoring just 21 seconds into game. The Oilers second round draft pick paid the price going to the front of the net to score his fourth of the season. Henrik Samuelsson then took the puck to the net and put home a backhand on the power play to make it 2-0 with seven minutes to play in the first. Samuelsson's tenth of the year was assisted by Dylan Wruck who extended his current point scoring streak to eight games.
Edmonton carried the 2-0 lead through the second period and into the third before Brendan Ranford was able to cut the lead to 2-1 with 7:07 to play. But the Oil Kings stayed the course and held off the Kamloops attack to grind out the victory. The Kings improved their record to 8-1-1-0 when carrying a lead into the third period.
Laurent Brossoit made 31 saves against the highest scoring team in the WHL to raise his record to 8-1-1-2. The Oil Kings goaltender has 58 saves on 60 shots in his last two starts on this current road trip.
Edmonton's six game road trip will continue tomorrow as they play the second of four games in five nights. The Kings will play in Kelowna tomorrow and then wrap up with back to back games on Friday and Saturday in Prince George.
The Oil Kings will return to home ice at Rexall Place on Saturday, Nov. 17 as they host the Raiders for their third meeting of the 2012-13 season. Back by popular demand, the Oil Kings will once again give away 1,000 WHL Championship replica rings. All fans at the game will be eligible to receive a ring, since scratch-and-win tickets will be used to determine the winners.
Tickets are available at OILKINGS.CA, at the Rexall Place Box Office or at Ticketmaster outlets. For more information on season seats or flex packs, call 780-414-GOAL (4625). All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca. The Oil Kings 2012-13 season is presented by JLT, Insurance & Risk Management.
