Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes unveiled this season's third jersey on "Military Appreciation" night.
Last year, the Hurricanes gave their fans a chance to submit their design concept for a brand new "third or alternate" jersey for the 2012-2013 season. The winning entrant, Josh Schroeder, designed his jersey with the "Hawker Hurricane" in mind. Schroeder decided on a rebrand of the "Hurricanes" name that was more relevant to the city of Lethbridge and one that would celebrate the history of the club.
The logo is a silhouette of a Hawker Hurricane in red. A thick blue circle surrounding the aircraft, the logo subtly implies the roundel that would have adorned the sides of RCAF Hurricanes during WWII. Within the blue circle above the aircraft, set in white and arching with the circle is the word "Lethbridge" and directly below the aircraft is the word "Hurricanes" set in blue and contouring along the top to complement the shape of the Hurricanes wings and fuselage.
Beneath the Hurricanes word mark are four white stars representing each of the Hurricanes Conference Championships, and one gold star representing the 1997 WHL Championship. In addition to representing the shape of the RCAF roundel, the circular element ties the logo to the City of Lethbridge by representing a Chinook arch above the aircraft and the Old Man River Valley beneath.
