Royals Announce 2011-12 Regular Season Schedule
June 1, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2011-12 regular season schedule. For the ninth time in the eleven year history of the team, the Royals' 72-game regular season schedule opens on the road-this year, for the first time ever, at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, October 14, 2011, against the three-time Kelly Cup champion South Carolina Stingrays. Reading's regular season wraps up on Saturday, March 31, 2012, when the Royals host the Trenton Devils at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. After kicking off the season with a two-game southern swing, the Royals return to the Sovereign Center for the eleventh home opener in team history on Saturday, October 22, when the team's perennial playoff nemesis, the Cincinnati Cyclones, make their only trip of the regular season to the Sovereign Center. The Royals 2011-12 regular season schedule, which is set out in full below, is also available on the team's website at https://www.royalshockey.com/201112Schedule.asp.
All seventy-two of Reading's regular season games this year are against opponents from the Eastern Conference. The Royals face each of the eleven teams in the East at least twice, including the newest addition to the Conference, the Chicago Express, who the Royals play four times in 2011-12. Although divisional alignment is still pending determination by the ECHL Board of Governors, the Royals play forty-two total regular season games against three opponents: the Elmira Jackals (16), the Trenton Devils (13) and the Wheeling Nailers (13). The Royals play three different teams only twice: the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Gwinnett Gladiators, and the team that knocked Reading out of the 2011 ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs, the Kalamazoo Wings.
Royals fans will get a chance to see each of the eleven other teams in the East at the Sovereign Center this year, including the Express who make their debut appearance in Reading on Wednesday, November 23. The Royals have four separate sequences during the season in which the team plays three or more consecutive games at the Sovereign Center. The longest home stand of the season-which is four games in length-kicks off with the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday matinee game on Monday, January 16, 2012, when Royals take on the Stingrays at 1:05 pm. For the first time in team history, Reading will also host another Monday holiday matinee game at 1:05 pm on President's Day (February 20), when the Jackals make one of their nine appearances at the Sovereign Center. The busiest month of the season at home for Reading will come in the regular season's final stanza-March-when ten of the fifteen games played by the team will be held at the Sovereign Center.
Consistent with the home side of the schedule, the Royals also get the opportunity to play in the home barns of all eleven opponents in the East. Reading will hit the ice for the first time in team history at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on Friday, January 6 and 7, when the Royals are set to play a two game set against Chicago. Continuing a tradition begun last year, the Royals will play two of their seven road games scheduled against the Wheeling Nailers at historic Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania (Friday, December 16 and Sunday, February 12). The longest road trip of the year extends for five games starting in Greenville, South Carolina, on Friday, November 4, and concluding with one of the Royals' seven trips to First Arena in Elmira, New York (Friday, November 11). The Royals will have their bags packed most frequently during the month of November, when they play 8 of 13 games on the road.
Fifty-seven of the Royals seventy-two regular season games this year fall on weekend dates with twenty-four Fridays-sixteen of which are to be played on the road-leading the way in that category. The busiest day of the week this year at the Sovereign Center will be Saturday, when the Royals suit up for twelve prime-time home contests, including four in the month of March. Tuesday through Saturday game times at the Sovereign Center will remain consistent with seasons' of recent memory with the puck dropping on the opening face-off at 7:05 pm. This year, Sunday games at the Sovereign Center will start at 4:05 pm.
The Royals full 2010-11 ECHL Regular Season Schedule, which includes the two currently schedule pre-season games, is set out below. Please note that all game times are subject to change.
