June 1, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces will begin their Kelly Cup Championship defense by hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers on Friday, October 14 in their 2011-2012 ECHL season opener at Sullivan Arena, the Aces announced on Wednesday. The announcement comes as part of the full season schedule release by the Aces. On October 14, the Aces will unveil their 2011 Kelly Cup Championship Banner before they drop the puck on the new season. The ceremony will come along with other Banner presentations from their record-breaking championship campaign. The 2011-2012 season is just four months away. Season tickets and corporate packages are currently available by calling the Aces office at 907.258.ACES. For the most up to date news and information on the Aces, please visit the Alaska Aces Facebook page.
The Aces will play 29 of the 36 home games next season on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. 11 of the first 13 games of the season will be played at home, including a season-opening, five-game home stand. The Aces will exclusively play teams from the Western Conference in the regular season. On Tuesday, the ECHL announced the addition of the Colorado Eagles to the ECHL's Western Conference. The Aces and Eagles will play their first regular season game against one another on Wednesday, December 28 at Sullivan Arena. The game will be part of a three-game series, culminating with a New Year's Eve contest. The Aces and Eagles will also meet for the Alaska regular season home-finale on Saturday, March 10, before the Aces close the season schedule on a nine-game road trip.
The longest home stand and road trips for the Aces are each 11 games. Alaska's longest home stand begins on December 28 and concludes on January 21. On the stand, the Aces will host Colorado, Utah, Stockton, and Idaho. Following that segment, the 11-game road trip begins on Wednesday, January 25 in Bakersfield, and continues through February 11. On the trip, the Aces will visit Bakersfield, Stockton, Ontario, Las Vegas, and Idaho.
The Aces most-faced opponent in the 2011-2012 season is the Idaho Steelheads. The two clubs, who combined have represented the Western Conference in the Kelly Cup Finals in five of the last six seasons will square off 13 times this year. Following that are 11 meetings each with both Bakersfield and Ontario. Alaska's season will conclude on Saturday, March 31 in Ontario against the Reign. As in years past, all Aces home games will be played at Sullivan Arena. Sunday games will begin at 5:05pm, and all other games will begin at 7:15pm.
