Royals Agree To Terms With John Snowden

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with right wing John Snowden. A fourth year pro who hails from Snohomish, Washington, Snowden led the now-defunct Greenville Grrrowl with 64 points (27g - 37a) in 69 regular season games last year. Snowden also scored a team high seven game winning goals last year-one of which came against the Royals 2:27 into overtime on February 10, 2006, to give the Grrrowl a 5-4 win over Reading in the team's final trip to Greenville last season. Snowden also scored the overtime game winner in the Grrrowl's series clinching victory over the Augusta Lynx in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs last year.

2005-06 marked the third consecutive season for Snowden, 6'0"/205, to surpass the twenty goal plateau. In 2003-04, Snowden's rookie campaign with the Texas Wildcatters, he scored twenty-two goals in seventy-two games. Twelve (8g - 4a) of his forty-three points that year came in the month of November, when he was selected as the ECHL's Player of the Month. Later that season, Snowden was also chosen to represent the Wildcatters at the 2004 ECHL All-Star game in Peoria, Illinois. The next year, the twenty-four year old Snowden hit the proverbial gusher for the Wildcatters, scoring a team record 37 goals in seventy-one games, an output which included eight multi-goal games and which placed him third overall in the league's goal scoring race. In his last eight games in 2004-05, Snowden racked up thirteen goals-an explosion that included a four goal (and five point) game against the Louisiana IceGators on April 2 and led to his being selected as the ECHL's Player of the Month for April of 2005. That outburst also led to Snowden's first call-up to the American Hockey League, as he finished out the season with a game with the Utah Grizzlies, then of the AHL.

Last year, Snowden continued on his scoring binge, racking up at least one point in 43 of the Grrrowl's regular season games-in sixteen of which he scored more than one point. In fact, in a twenty-two game span from February 10 through March 25 last season, Snowden notched 26 points (13g - 13a). Included in those totals were three goals against the Royals, as he scored two in the February 10 overtime win for Greenville and he also scored the game's first goal in the Grrrowl's only visit to the Sovereign Center last season-a 4-2 win for Reading on February 28, 2006. While in the midst of his late season scoring spree, Snowden also earned a two game call-up to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL. Prior to turning pro, Snowden, who was a member of the U.S. National Junior Team in 1999-00, played three seasons of junior hockey for the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League, scoring a total of 143 points (79g - 64a = 143 pts) in 167 games.
