Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Defenseman Pat Sutton.
The 6'1", 200-lb native of Forest, ON joined the Salmon Kings last season on November 19, 2005 in a trade with the Pensacola Ice Pilots. In 58 games with Victoria, Sutton garnered 8 assists and tied for the highest plus-minus rating for a Defenseman who played more than 12 games with the club.
From 2001-2005, Sutton spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sault-Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Owen Sound Attack and Belleville Bulls. The 22-year-olds best offensive season was with the Bulls in 2004-05, with which he recorded 26 points (7 goals, 16 assists) in 68 games. He also received a nomination for the Max Kaminsky Trophy, which is awarded annually to the Most Outstanding Defenseman as selected by OHL general managers.
"We have added a young, reliable, and well-rounded player as our first defenseman," said Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "Pat Sutton is a focused and intense player on the ice, uplifting in the locker room, and proactive in his community off the ice."
During last season, Sutton attended South Island Minor Hockey practices to help run drills, and a surprise drop-in floor hockey game at Royal Oak Middle School.
"Victoria is a great place to play and I can't wait to get back into the community," said Sutton. "The Salmon Kings finished last season in the right direction, and I am excited about the big steps the organization is taking to start this season."
The Salmon Kings regular season begins on Friday October 20th in Anchorage, AK against the Aces. Their first home game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is on Wednesday October 25th against the Idaho Steelheads.
