Gladiators Ink Mifsud for '06 - '07
August 8, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Scott Mifsud will be returning to the Gladiators for the 2006-07 season after helping the team reach the Kelly Cup Finals during the 2005-06 season. The Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with the forward for the upcoming season.
"The whole season, especially the playoff run, was such a thrill last year," said Mifsud. "I knew that if I was going to be playing in the ECHL, I was going to be coming back to Gwinnett."
The Burlington, Ontario native ranked 4th in scoring on the Gladiators during his rookie season last year posting 63 points. Mifsud finished the season with 21 goals, and was one of seven players on the Gladiators to finish the season with 20 or more goals.
"I had a fabulous time playing in Gwinnett last year and I wanted to give it another crack," said Mifsud. "Last year was the team's most successful season in franchise history and there is no reason we can't build off that this [upcoming] year."
Mifsud scored two of the biggest goals during the Gladiators 2006 Kelly Cup Playoff run last year. He capped the Gladiators 3-goal come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 2 of the Division Semi-Finals. Mifsud also collected the overtime game winning goal in Game 5 of the Conference Finals in Toledo to beat the Storm 3-2 sending the Gladiators to the Kelly Cup Finals.
The 5-foot-8, 185-pound forward finished the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs sharing fifth in scoring with 13 points. His 3 game winning goals ranked first in the post season and was the only player to post an overtime playoff goal for the Gladiators last year.
Mifsud joined the Gladiators as a rookie last year after completing his senior season at the University of Vermont in 2004-05 where he led the Catamounts, as well as the ECAC, in scoring posting 48 points. He shared first in game winning goals with 4 while his 12 power play goals ranked first in his final collegiate season at Vermont.
The Gwinnett Gladiators open their fourth season as a proud member of the ECHL in October of 2006 - season tickets are on sale now. In addition, the Gladiators offer several unique multi-game ticket packages as well as discounted group rates, suite rentals, and birthday parties.
