Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â The Reading Royals, the ECHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, have announced the signings of forwards Geoff Peters and Matt Passfield. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Forward Geoff Peters becomes the third player signed by Reading from last year's squad. Peters suited up for 40 games with Reading last season and tallied 15 goals and 28 points. Prior to joining the Royals, the second round pick of the Blackhawks in 1996, spent time in Milwaukee of the AHL and Manchester of the BISL. The 25-year-old Hamilton, Ontario native also suited up for Columbus and Trenton in the ECHL.
"In speaking with Geoff I feel he has something to prove. He wasn't happy with his performance from a year ago and he is looking for an opportunity to rebound this year," Royals coach Clancey said.
Forward Matt Passfield is expected to arrive in Reading tomorrow after agreeing to terms with the Royals. Passfield was in Ontario attending the Hamilton Bulldogs training camp. He was one of the final cuts at the American Hockey League camp. The rookie forward is expected to provide offense for the Royals this season.
"I haven't seen Matt play, but I heard he has good offensive skills. He scored over 30 goals in the OHL last year and he has good size. I am looking forward to him arriving at camp in the near future," commented Clancey.
The Royals have released forward Josh Franceschini and goaltender Cam McCormick. The two players signed tryout contracts with the Royals prior to training camp commencing.
The Reading Royals are "dropping the gloves" on their third season with the Kelly Cup Champion, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The two Northern Division foes will meet in the Royals loan preseason game on Friday, October 10 at 7:05 p.m. All tickets to the game are specially priced at just $5. The Royals encourage fans to "drop their gloves" on the season as well by bringing a pair of gloves to the game and donating them to the Hope Rescue Mission. Volunteers from Hope Rescue Mission will be at entrances to the Sovereign Center to collect your glove donations.
The Royals face off their third season on Friday, October 17 in Trenton against the Titans. The Royals home opener is slated for Saturday, October 18 versus the expansion Texas Wildcatters. Get to the game early for the Quadrant Engineering "Wild in the Streets Block Party" beginning at 2:00 p.m. Season, half-season, mini-pack and group tickets are on sale now by calling the Reading Royals Hockey Headquarters at 35 North 6th Street in downtown Reading 610-898-7825 (PUCK) or toll free 866-789-7627 (ROAR).
