Rox Win Third Straight

ST CLOUD-The St. Cloud Rox won their third straight game with an 8-3 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats in front of 1,722 fans at Joe Faber Field Friday night. Chris Paul (California) was 1-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in the game to lead St. Cloud at the plate.

Andy Urban (Creighton) was stellar on the mound for the Rox through seven-plus innings. The righty lasted into the eighth inning and only allowed three runs on five hits to earn the victory. Urban held Thunder Bay hitless until the fifth inning.

The Rox scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good.

Jamie Simpson (Eastern Michigan) walked to lead off the inning and was driven in by Paul's two run blast with one out. Carlos Lopez (Cal-State Fullerton) also drove in a run in the frame for the Rox to make the score 3-0.

Thunder Bay got a single run in the top of the fifth inning but the Rox struck for five in the bottom of the sixth. St. Cloud put together a six hit rally with RBI singles contributed by Simpson, Mark Rhine (Wake Forest), Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) and Nick Tanielu (Washington State).

With the Willmar Stingers also winning on the night the Rox remain 2.5 games out of first place with nine games left to play. St. Cloud's record of 15-13 puts them in second place in the North Division.

The Rox homestand continues Saturday night with the Rox looking to sweep Thunder Bay and remain in the playoff hunt. It's also Star Wars night at Joe Faber Field with characters from the popular science fiction movie on hand, and fans at the park are encouraged to wear their Star Wars gear.* In addition, Saturday night is Scout Night 2012, with boy and girl scouts invited to camp out on Joe Faber Field after the game.
