MoonDogs vs. Alexandria game postponed
August 3, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Alexandria Beetles News Release
Alexandria, MN - With the Mankato MoonDogs leading the Alexandria Beetles 5-4 at the start of the fifth inning, the skies opened up above Knute Nelson and postponed the opener of a three-game series to Saturday.
The teams will resume Friday's game, with MoonDog Audie Afenir at the plate to lead off the fifth inning, at 5:05 CDT Saturday. After the completion of game one, the teams will play a second seven-inning game with a scheduled first pitch at 7:05 CDT.
Fans holding either a general admissions or reserved ticket stub from Friday's game can, with the ticket, re-enter Knute Nelson on Saturday and stay for both games. The ticket stub may also be used for any future 2012 Beetles home game. Fans holding a ticket for Saturday's 7:05 game can enter at any point after gates open at 5:00 for the resumption of Friday's game.
Fans with questions about ticketing for tomorrow's games should email at vbrady1@swarthmore.edu.
The MoonDogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a leadoff double by Alex Wise and a pair of wild pitches with Cody Ferrell at the plate from starter Ali Simpson.
Mankato starter Julien Soucy, perfect through two, ran into serious trouble in the third as the Beetles batted around and struck for four runs. John Loeffler led off with a single and with one out, Dallas Hannah walked and Matt Lowenstein singled to center. As centerfielder Cody Ferrell charged the ball, it hopped over his glove and on to the warning track as two runs scored and Lowenstein moved to third. A Tanner Vavra single brought in Lowenstein and on a comebacker to the mound from Ben Moore, Soucy threw the ball away up the right field line allowing Vavra to score the fourth run of the inning.
But the Beetles gave the runs right back in the top of the fourth on a pair of two-run home runs, the first from Chad Christensen for his fourth of the year, and the second from Kevin Corey in just his second Mankato at-bat of the summer to restore the one-run Mankato lead.
Alexandria sent the minimum to the plate in the bottom of the inning before the lighting and rains came.
Friday's scheduled fireworks, sponsored by Culver's, will be displayed following Saturday's second game.
