Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers could not hold an early lead and go on to lose 7-5 to the Waterloo Bucks in Waterloo, IA on Friday night.

The Honkers plated two in the top of the first inning when left fielder Jordan Parr (Illinois) led off the game with a double and was driven in two batters later when his twin brother Justin Parr (Illinois) ripped a two-run home run.

The Honkers offense scored two more in the third on an RBI single by first baseman Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) and a double play groundout from Justin Parr to bring in another score to make it a 4-0 Honkers lead.

Honkers starter Dylan Nelson (San Mateo) pitched his way out of a jam in the bottom half of the third when the Bucks loaded the bases with just one out. Nelson proceeded to strike out two of the Bucks most productive hitters, catcher Austin Barrett (Mercer) and left fielder Kevin Kaczmarski (Evanville), to end the threat.

The Bucks finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a huge inning to knock Nelson out of the game. The Bucks scored seven total runs in the frame to take a 7-4 lead. The final line for Nelson was 4.2 innings pitched, seven earned runs on 11 hits and a walk, and eight strikeouts. Nelson is now 1-4 on the season.

The Honkers scored a run in the eighth inning on a Justin Parr fielder's choice, but couldn't get anymore as they dropped the second game of the set to make it a 1-1 series tie. Justin Parr went 1 for 4 with the home run and three RBIs.

Lankford finished the night 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Reliever Elliott Engle (Doane) pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four Waterloo hitters.

The Honkers (10-17, 25-37) and Bucks (13-14, 32-30) will play the finale of the three-game set tomorrow night, August 4th, in Waterloo, IA at 6:35 PM. The tall right-hander Nick Dolsky (DMACC) gets the start for Rochester. Dolsky is 1-2 in five starts with an ERA of 3.70.

The Honkers will be back home on Sunday, August 5th to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 1:05 PM.
