Bullfrogs Take Down First-Place Loggers
August 3, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Powered by the bats of Jason McMurray and the formerly slumping Billy Moon, the Bullfrogs held on in La Crosse Thursday night for a 9-6 victory over the league-leading Loggers.
The Bullfrogs leapt ahead early with Jason McMurray's two out, two RBI single, plating Collin Shaw and David Armendariz to give Green Bay a 2-0 lead.
The Loggers cut the deficit in half when Kevin Kramer plated Rich Prigatano with an RBI single, making the score 2-1.
Jason McMurray was at it again in his next at bat in the top of the third inning. After Billy Moon doubled to lead off the frame, McMurray drove him home with a single off of La Crosse starter Jake Stassi for his third RBI of the day. McMurray leads the Bullfrogs with 12 RBI off of left-handed pitching.
The Bullfrogs added to the lead in the fourth with a two run Billy Moon home run to extend their lead to 5-1 over the Loggers.
Green Bay closed out its scoring with a four run frame in the sixth. Two wild pitches, a hit batter, and a single from Taylor Peterson made the Bullfrogs lead 9-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
The Loggers threatened throughout the rest of the game, keeping the Bullfrogs on their toes.
La Crosse managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth frame off of Bullfrogs starter Harry Stanwyck. Matt Chapman added the first run with a solo home run to left field, and Tyler Kuresa made the score 9-3 when he drove home Prigatano with a bases-loaded single.
The Loggers stranded the bases full in the sixth and in the seventh.
After pitching a scoreless eighth inning, Will Landsheft gave up a three run home run to Kramer to lessen the Bullfrogs lead to 9-6. With one runner on, Brendan Farney flied out to the warning track to end the game in a Bullfrogs victory.
Each team stranded ten runners on during the game.
The Bullfrogs are now 8-17 in the second half, and back to .500 at 30-30 overall.
