August 8, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
ST CLOUD- Tadd Johansen pitched a complete game to guide the Rox to their sixth straight win in a 3-2 victory over Waterloo in front of 1,781 fans at Joe Faber Field.
The Rox are now 18-13 on the season and are in second place, one-and-a-half games behind first place Willmar.
Johansen went the distance and his five-hit, seven-strikeout performance earned him Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night honors. The lefty was efficient with his pitches as he threw just 106 including 71 for strikes.
The Rox scored first in the bottom of the third inning when Elvin Soto (Pittsburgh) singled home Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh). Of Soto's twelve RBI on the season, six have brought home Vazquez.
The Bucks struck for a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run double. The runners who came around to score had reached via a walk (the lone Bucks walk) and the only Rox error of the game.
The Rox answered back in the bottom of the sixth when Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) scored on a Phil Imholte (St. Cloud State) single up the middle. Soto provided the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh with a single to plate Nick Tanielu (Washington State) to make the score 3-2.
The Rox are now in sole possession of second place in the North Division and have five games remaining in the regular season. The Rox inaugural home season is coming to an end, with just three games left on the schedule.
Wednesday night is Rox Water Bottle Night, presented by Franklin Graphics.
The first 250 fans through the gates for the game against Waterloo will receive a bottle. Game time is 7:05 with gates opening at 6:05. Tickets can be purchased and printed from home by visiting www.stcloudrox.com.
