Brockton Rox News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT -RHP John Kelly tossed his second consecutive complete- game, a four-hit masterpiece over the New Haven County Cutters as the Rox won 2-1 at Yale Field to tie the five-game playoff series at one win apiece. Kelly allowed just a solo HR in the second and retired the final 10 batters of the game, punctuating the victory with a strikeout of the final batter of the contest. 1B Francisco Lebron homered for the Rox to tie the game in the seventh, and SS Mike Scanzano's RBI single gave the Rox the lead in the eighth. The Rox will play the remainder of the series at home at Campanelli Stadium, including Game 3 on Friday at 7:05 PM.

After retiring the first four batters of the game, Kelly gave up a solo HR to RF Orlando Encarnacion, as the Cutters jumped in front 1-0 in the second. Cutters starter RHP Justin was virtually untouchable. He allowed just two hits and just three baserunners through six. However, Knoff left the game after six with an injury, and RHP Jarrett Stawarz took over. Four pitches later, Lebron tied the game with a tape-measure HR over the left-center field wall, giving the Rox their first run since the first inning of Game 1.

In the top of eighth, PH Joe Hough hit for CF Brad Rosenblat, and immediately fell behind RHP Mark Comolli 0-2. Hough worked the count to 2-2 and was hit by a pitch. LF Eugene Julien slapped a hit-and- run single through the left side to put runners at first and third, and Scanzano ripped a 1-2 Comolli fastball to center to give the Rox their first lead in the game. Kelly held on, striking out a batter in each of the last three innings, and fanning 1B D.J. Boston to end the game.

Tomorrow at Campanelli Stadium, LHP Rolando Viera (9-7, 2.65 ERA) takes the ball for the Rox in Game 3 against RHP Courtney Hall (5-4, 3.61 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
