Rox Swept by 'Cats in Thunder Bay

The St. Cloud Rox lost to the Thunder Bay Border Cats 8-4 Wednesday afternoon at Port Arthur Stadium in Ontario. The loss was the Rox fourth straight and drops their record to 5-9 on the season, while the 'Cats improve to 7-8 with the three game sweep.

The Rox took the game's first lead when Phil Imholte (St. Cloud State) led off the third inning with a double and scored on a Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) RBI single. Imholte stayed hot on the afternoon, going 2-4 with a pair of runs to raise his batting average to .311. Rhine and Nick Rau each had a pair of hits in the game for the Rox as well.

The Border Cats answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third on a Rox infield error, a double and a triple. The Cats would add another four unanswered runs (one in the 4th, three in the 6th) to take a 7-1 lead into the seventh inning.

St. Cloud got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Imholte hit an RBI single to score Nick Rau (Georgia Southern), and Tony Skjefte (Minnesota) hit a sac fly to plate Enger. Rhine would add another RBI single in the ninth to cap the game's scoring.

Rox starting pitcher Tadd Johansen (Wayne State College) took the loss to drop his record to 0- 1 on the season. Johansen lasted four innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Kacy Kemmer (Austin Peay) got the win for the Border Cats with seven innings of seven-hit, two run ball.

The Rox are heading to Mankato for a pair of games Thursday-Friday against the MoonDogs at Franklin Rogers Park before returning home Saturday to finish the series with Mankato.
