WISCONSIN RAPIDS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks took an early 4-0 lead on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, but the Rafters scored five unanswered runs to take game one of the three-game set, 5-4.

Starters Nestor Bautista for the Rafters and Alex Vetter for the Woodchucks traded zeroes until the fifth inning when the Woodchucks offense broke out. With the bases loaded and two outs, Gage Green hit a ball off the wall, scoring three, his second three-run double in the last five days, to make it 3-0 Woodchucks. Green would score on the next pitch as Brendon Hayden lined a single to right field, making it a 4-0 Woodchuck lead.

The Rafters would get one back in the bottom of the fifth without the benefit of a hit. After a two-out walk, Sean Godfrey stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch. With Pat Kelly at the plate, Vetter uncorked another wild pitch, scoring Godfrey from third and making it a 4-1 Woodchuck lead.

Vetter exited after five excellent innings, and the Woodchucks defense cost Vetter a shot at the win as the Rafters tied the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth. Aided by two Woodchuck errors and two walks by reliever Zach Wendorf, the Rafters scored three runs to make it a 4-4 game heading to the seventh.

The score would stay tied at four until the eighth, when the Rafters would take their first lead of the game. With Godfrey once again on second and two down, Austin Neary lined a ball into right field that scored Neary from second and gave the Rafters a 5-4 lead off of reliever Chevas Numata.

The Woodchucks would get a two-out single from Nate Irving in the ninth, but it would not matter as they fell 5-4. Picking up the loss for the Woodchucks was Chevas Numata, and getting the win for the Rafters was Seth Fuller.

The "˜Chucks will head home to Athletic Park to take on the Rafters tomorrow night at 6:35.
