Rox Roll over Stingers Sunday, 9-3

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox capped off a three game home stint as they played host to the Willmar Stingers Sunday night as they sent the Stingers home by a final score of 9-3.

Clay Williamson led off the bottom of the first hitting a single and was followed by Devin Pearson with another single for the Rox. Daniel Comstock then hit a double moving Pearson to third and scoring Williamson for a Rox 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly to center field by Chris Paul would send the Rox to a 2-0 lead as Pearson scored. St. Cloud made it a 3-0 game on a Tim Colwell double.

Willmar made it a 3-1 game as Michael Suchy led off the top of the second with a solo home run. The Stingers then tied the game up 3-3 in the top of the third as Nick Halamandaris hit a two-run double with two outs on the board.

St. Cloud regained the lead in the bottom of the third starting the inning with back-to-back walks putting Adam Martin on second and Comstock on first. Colwell reached on a fielder's choice moving Martin to third while Comstock was putout. Colwell would then steal second and score along with Martin as Eric Loxtercamp hit a two-run double taking the Rox to a 5-3 lead over the Stingers.

In the bottom of the fifth the Rox were in a two-out situation early but continued to battle as Blake Headley hit a double and Dustin Breshears earned a walk gaining momentum. Williamson followed with a RBI single putting the Rox up 6-3. Willmar then walked Pearson on five pitches loading the bases for the Rox on two outs. With a single by Martin and an error by the Stingers' right fielder, St. Cloud would take an 8-3 lead. The Rox took a 9-3 advantage into the sixth inning as Comstock singled scoring Pearson.

Scoring went stagnant the rest of the game with each team only averaging one hit an inning. The Rox sealed a 9-3 victory over the Willmar Stingers in the top of the ninth as Reese Gregory faced five batters allowing only one hit.

On the mound for the Rox tonight was starting pitcher Eric Nyquist as he pitched six innings and striking out seven to earn the win. Also seeing action was Jay Flaa for 1.1 innings of work and Gregory for 1.2 innings.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Clay Williamson. Williamson went 2-for-4, scoring two runs and recording one RBI.

The St. Cloud Rox (32-31, 18-10 Second Half) and the Willmar Stingers (35-28, 12-16 Second Half) will be back in action on Monday night against the Willmar Stingers on the road at Bill Taunton Stadium.
