Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Duluth, Minn-The Alexandria Blue Anchors picked up a 4-3 win over the Duluth Huskies Saturday night at Wade Stadium. With the win, the Anchors improved to 11-16 in the 2nd half and 21-40 overall.
The Blue Anchors got the scoring started in the 2nd inning off of Duluth starter Burke Seifrit. Keegan Dale had a lead-off double, and after an Aaron Gretz putout, Dale would score on a Dalton Leuschke sacrifice to make it a 1-0 game.
The Blue Anchors would add to their lead in the 3rd inning. Georgie Salem led off the inning with a solo home run. Kris Goodman would then double and score on a Tim Cusick single to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Anchors.
Duluth would tally their first run off of Blue Anchors starter Spencer Koopmans in the bottom of the 4th. Conor Szczerba picked up a one-out single, and would later score on a Keith Curcio single to make it a 3-1 game.
The Blue Anchors would get the run back in the top of the 5th, however. Georgie Salem led off the inning with a single. After advancing to 2nd on a wild pitch, Salem would score on an error by the catcher, allowing Albert Baur to reach base. Salem's run would make the score 4-1 in favor of the Blue Anchors.
Koopmans ran into some trouble in the bottom of the 6th inning. Kyle Teaf led off the inning with a single, and would score on a Tery Vavra double. Vavra would later score on a Brad Wilson single to make the score 4-3. However, Andy Johnson came in and finished the inning, ending the Duluth threat.
Koopmans (2-1) picked up the win for the Blue Anchors, going 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Andy Johnson went 2.1 innings, giving up only two hits. Brandon Johnson picked up his third save of the season, going 1 inning while only giving up one hit.
