
Rox Offense Stifled by Strong Stinger Pitching

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox were defeated by the Willlmar Stingers 6-1 Sunday afternoon in front of a sold out crowd of 2,497. Mental mistakes plagued the Rox both defensively and offensively that created runs for the Stingers.
Andrew Clemen (South Dakota State) started on the mound for the Rox today. He went 4.1 innings allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out two batters. He was pulled from the game for Andrew Sykes (Heartland Community College) after a controversial fair ball call down the third base line in the middle of the fourth inning that brought manager Augie Rodriguez out to the field to talk with the umpires.
Brett DeGagne (University of North Dakota) came into the game in the fifth inning and helped stop the Stingers offense. DeGagne went on to pitch three innings, striking out one batter and not allowing any runs or hits. Brian Glowicki (University of Minnesota) pitched the ninth inning for the Rox striking out one batter and sending down the Willmar lineup in order.
Joe Tietjen (UNC Asheville) went two for four with one walk and scored one run. Michael Strem (Boston College) drove in Tietjen for an RBI while going two for four and playing first base. Shortstop Brandon Benson (Georgia College) had a triple but was unable to be drove in.
Tomorrow is a double header for the Rox versus the Rochester Honkers with the first game starting at 5:05 p.m. at Joe Faber Field, the gates will open up for fans at 4:05 p.m. Tomorrow's first game will be the Rox Umbrella Giveaway presented by Wells Fargo. The first 300 fans will receive a Rox Umbrella. The first game was suspended because of bad weather and will start in the bottom of the third inning with the bases full for the Rox and nobody out. The second game will start 30 minutes after the first game is concluded.
