BROCKTON – The Rox lost the opening game of their four-game series with the Aces, 8-1, Friday night at Campanelli Stadium in front of 3,566.

The Rox, the home team for the series, which was originally scheduled to be played in Allentown when the traveling Aces were the Allentown Ambassadors, gave up three early runs and could not crack Aces starter Alex Pena until Chad Stewart's single to center field in the third inning.

The Aces opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning as Coby Smith, J.P. Schmidt, and Chad Gambill, had consecutive singles with Smith scoring on Gambill's, and Schmidt scoring on Yohanny Valera's ground out.

Down 3-0, the lone Rox run came on Kris Zacuto's fourth-inning solo home run to left field, his seventh of the season.

The Aces added three more runs in the fifth off Rox starter Derek Andersen, who took the loss, dropping his record to 5-6. Kevin Lynn pitched three innings of relief, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks.

Pena went the distance for the Aces – his first complete game of the season – improving his record to 3-6.

The Aces' Gambill was 4-for-5 with five RBI and a run scored, while teammate Smith was 3-for-3 with four runs scored.

Francisco Matos (1-for-3) extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Rox (5-6, 32-25) and Aces (3-8, 12-45) meet again Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch is 6:05 p.m. The Rox Brian Buchanan faces Marc Cerbone in the first game, with Geronimo Mendoza going against Josh Neitz in the second game.
