
Kelly Leads Spirit to Victory

Lynn, MA â The North Shore Spirit defeated the New Jersey Jackals 3-2 Friday night at the New Fraser Field. North Shore's John Kelly went the distance, striking out five and allowing just seven hits and two runs.
The Spirit were the first to strike in the fifth with two-out, back-to-back triples from Michael Granger and Yuri Sanchez. Lucas Taylor beat out an infield hit to score Sanchez for the second run of the game.
The Jackals fought back, scoring one run in the sixth and another in the seventh. Zack Smithlin and Wilton Veras singled in the sixth, followed by an RBI single from Wady Almonte. John Anderson had an RBI double in the seventh to tie the score at 2.
With two outs in the seventh, Sanchez singled to left centerfield and avanced to third on a stolen base and throwing error by the Jackals catcher. Sanchez touched home after Lucas Taylor reached base on a fielding error. The score would remain 3-2 for the remainder of the outing.
The Spirit finished with nine hits for the night. Yuri Sanchez was 2-3 for the Spirit with an RBI and two runs scored. Wilton Veras went 2-4 for New Jersey. Aaron Myers got the loss, pitching seven innings and giving up eight hits and three runs.
The Spirit currently lead the Northeast League's North Division in the second half standings.
Gary Bell (3-1) will start for the Spirit on Saturday and will face New Jersey's Josh Miller (4-3). Saturday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.
Saturday, July 31 is "Fright Night" or Halloween in July at Fraser Field, sponsored by Crosby's Marketplace. The fan with the best costume will win a petrifying prize and the first 1,000 kids (12 and under) to enter the gates will receive a special edition, orange and black mini-bat, courtesy of Crosby's Marketplace.
All Spirit players will be dressed in Halloween uniforms and fans will have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction to win one of the jerseys, signed by the player or coach wearing that uniform during the game. Commemorative uniforms are also sponsored by Crosby's Marketplace.
