Cutters Sign Former Quinnipiac Bobcat

New Haven County Cutters News Release


(West Haven, CT- July 30, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters today announced that they have signed their second relief pitcher in twenty-four hours with the addition of Richard "Buddy" Bengel.

Bengel, a graduate of Quinnipiac University, played all four years for the Bobcats. The 5'11" southpaw made 12 appearances in his senior season with seven starts. Bengel finished third on the team in strikeouts with 35.

The New Bern, NC, native appeared in 13 games as a junior and started 11 on the mound for the Bobcats. He led the team in wins (6) ERA, (2.66) and innings pitched (67 2/3). Bengel was named to the All-NEC second team at the conclusion of his junior season.
