Rox Light Up the Scoreboard in 9-2 Win

Brockton, MA (August 16, 2007) - RHP John Kelly allowed just one run in seven innings and set a Rox single-season record for strikeouts while the Rox lit up the scoreboard for the second straight night in a 9-2 win over the Sussex Skyhawks before a sellout crowd of 5,094 at Campanelli Stadium. The Rox have scored 17 runs on 28 hits in their last two games, both wins. DH Francisco Lebron hit his 14th homer of the season in the win; Lebron tied the Rox single-season record with the first inning blast. OF Tony Gonzalez annd SS Jorge Mejia each had a three-hit night for the Rox, while LF Jerod Edmondson had his third-straight multi-hit game.

Kelly allowed a run in the first inning on four hits as LF Alex Frasier drove home Rios with a single to make it 1-0 Skyhawks after a half inning. The Rox tied up the game in the first on Lebron's solo blast. He is now tied for the Rox single-season lead in HR with 3B Jake Daubert (2004) and DH Guye Senjem (2006). In the second, Kelly fanned SS Kevin Rios for his 111th strikeout of the season, breaking LHP Rolando Viera's 2006 mark.

In the third inning against Sussex starter RHP Matt Hirsh, Gonzalez ripped a single up the middle to give the Rox a 2-1 lead. They added three runs in the fourth with RBI from C Lee Rubin, 2B Alex Nunez, and 1B John Allen. Rubin has seven RBI in the last three games. Mejia ended Hirsh's evening in the fifth with an RBI double to make it 6-1 Rox.

Gonzalez had an RBI double in the sixth inning and scored on an run- scoring single by 3B Melvin Falu one batter later as the Rox continued the rout. While Rios hit a solo HR in the eighth inning to make it 8-2 Rox, the Rox plated the final run of the evening when rookie C Joe McGhee drove home his first runner of the year with a single to center.

The Rox have won seven of their last nine games and are six games out of a playoff berth with 17 games left in the 2007 Can-Am League Regular Season. Friday at Campanelli Stadium, RHP Chris Martin (0-0, 8.10 ERA) makes his second start of the year as he faces Sussex LHP Vince Davis (5-6, 3.84 ERA).
