New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals started the first game of a four game series in Nashua on the wrong foot. The Pride used a three-run sixth inning to win a back-and-forth ballgame by the final score of 6-4.

The Jackals wasted no time putting up three runs in their first set of at-bats against Akira Okamota. Wilton Veras singled home the first run, and on what looked to be a potential ground ball double play, Clyde Williams beat the relay throw to first, which bounced passed first baseman Chris Colabello. Two runs score on the play, and through one, the Jackals led 3-0.

Nashua sliced the Jackals lead to just one in the bottom of the second. Colabello pushed in the first run with a single, and a double play ball off the bat of Jermy Acey allowed the second to score. They tied the game in the next inning on a ground ball out off the bat of Tommy Rojas.

Newcomer Marcos Rodriguez collected a sac fly for the Jackals in the top of the fourth to give his team a lead once again. The score was 4-3 after four innings.

But Nashua would finally take advantage of Josh Brey's erratic control in the bottom of the sixth. After a pair of singles, and a walk, Brian Duplissie doubled home a pair of runs. Later in the inning, Austin Wasserman reached on a fielder's choice for the third run of the inning. The Pride held a 6-4 lead after six, and never gave it back.

Akira Okamota settled down after a shaky first inning to put together a strong outing. He earned the win in seven innings while yielding four runs, just two earned, on eight hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Josh Brey took the loss allowing all six runs in five innings.

Rich Garces shut down the Jackals in the ninth for his 15th save of the season.
