Brockton Rox News Release

Todd Leathers's walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the ninth off Brockton closer Joey Cole led Quebec (24-14) to a 6-5 comeback win over the visiting Rox (18-20) on Tuesday night at Le Stade Municipal.

Leathers went 2-4 with four RBI in helping the Capitales win their first game of the season in which they trailed after the seventh inning. His two-run homer in the seventh inning off Brockton starter Mike Henry brought Quebec to within 5-4.

After the Rox squandered a bases loaded/none out situation in the top of the ninth, Cole opened the bottom of the frame by hitting Eddie Lantigua. After retiring Buck McNabb on a flyball to left, Cole walked Olivier LePine, setting the stage for Leathers' heroics. With the runners in motion, the first baseman sent a drive over centerfielder Eugene Julien's head, scoring Lantigua and LePine easily.

Capitales starter Darwin Marrero left the game with an apparent injury in the top of the first inning after throwing ball one to the third hitter he faced, Saul Bustos. Reliever Shane Moran finished off a scoreless first and second before giving up four runs in the third on a wild pitch, a Jake Daubert RBI single, and a Brad Rosenblat RBI double.

Pitcher/manager Michel LaPlante hurled the next five innings for Quebec, allowing just a run-scoring single by Mike Scanzano in the top of the fourth.

Cole (4-2) took the loss, tripling the number of earned runs he had allowed for the season. Capitales closer Cristian Mendoza (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory.

The two teams play the second game in their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05, former Rox pitcher Marcos Castillo heading to the mound for les Capitales against Brockton's Manny Tejada
