North Shore Spirit News Release

The first game of the doubleheader got away from the North Shore Spirit quickly on Tuesday Night, as they fell to the New Jersey Jackals 14-1. The Jackals sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning of play, coming away with nine runs on eight hits. Jackals leadoff hitter Zach Smithlin had a single and a double in the inning. North Shore didn't record an out until the ninth batter of the inning stepped to the plate.

Jake Mullis allowed seven runners to cross the plate, with Darren Ciraco doing most of the damage on a grand slam. Steve Checksfield followed that shot with a home run of his own, chasing Mullis from the game. Jarrett Sues entered the game in relief and gave up the Jackals' third home run in a row to Chris Rowan. Sues allowed one more run on a RBI double from Elvis Corporan to close out the New Jersey scoring at nine. The Spirit got one back in the bottom of the inning when Alex Trezza knocked Rob Fischer home with an RBI single.

The Jackals extended their lead to double digits with a three-run third inning. John Lindsey, who had walked in his first two plate appearances, launched a three-run homer, his eighth of the season.

Ryan Warpinski replaced Sues in the fourth inning, but the Jackals offense didn't let up. Sandy Madera hit the fifth Jackals home run of the game to give New Jersey a 14-1 lead.
