New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals and the North Shore Spirit split a doubleheader in Lynn, MA. The Jackals won game one 14-1, and the Spirit were victorious in game two 7-2.

The New Jersey Jackals ran out of the gates and pummeled the Spirit from the start of game one. Jake Mullis was the starter for North Shore, and he couldn't record an out. He allowed seven runs before getting taken out of the game. The Jackals ended up scoring 9 runs in the inning, including back-to-back-to-back homeruns tallied by Darren Ciraco, Steve Checksfield and Chris Rowan. Ciraco's was a grand slam.

In the third, the Jackals pushed across three more runs, yet again on a homerun. John Lindsey belted his eighth bomb of the season, making it 12-1 in favor of New Jersey. A two-run homerun by Sandy Madera in the fourth, put the Jackals up 14-1, and ended their scoring.

Joe Orloski got the win for the Jackals, going a complete game, seven innings, while surrendering only six hits and one earned run. The loss was suffered by Jake Mullis.

In game two, the Spirit scored the first run of the contest, when Alex Trezza tallied a sacrifice fly. North Shore gave the Jackals a taste of their own medicine in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on Jackals' starter Alan Webb. Rob Fischer tripled with the bases loaded, clearing them, and Vic Davilla followed up with a two-run homerun to put the Spirit up 6-0.

Brian Macchi doubled home North Shore's seventh run in the bottom of the fifth, definitely putting the game out of reach for the Jackals.

The Jackals attempted a comeback in the top of the sixth. Darren Ciraco scored on a wild pitch, and Mike Rucci grounded out, allowing Chris Rowan to cross the home plate.

North Shore starter Greg Pleeter was almost untouchable until giving up the two runs in the top of the sixth. He got the victory for the Spirit in 5.2 innings pitched. Alan Webb suffered the loss for the Jackals.
