
Rox Fall Behind Early and Fail to Complete Comeback in 4-3 Loss to Worcester

WORCESTER, MA- A three-run second inning for the Worcester Tornadoes against Rox RHP Brad Guy gave the Tornadoes an early lead and despite two late runs for the Rox in the final frames, the Tornaodes hung on to beat Brockton 4-3 at Hanover Insurance Park in Worcester in front of 3,374. DH Guye Senjem hit his second HR of the series and 13th of the season in the loss for the Rox. The Rox and Tornadoes have split the first two games of the series. While Guy settled down to shut down Worcester over his final four innings, he took his fourth loss of the season in the start. RF Keith Brachold and 2B Mike Torres had multi-hit games for the Rox in defeat. The Rox fall to 14-12 in the second half (38-34 overall) while Worcester improves to 10-15 with the win (32-37 overall).
The Rox struck first with a run in the first inning. SS Mike Scanzano led off the game with a single, his sixth hit in his last nine at-bats. Two pitches later, Brachold ripped a double to the gap in right-center, scoring Scanzano and giving the Rox an early 1-0 lead. Facing Guy in the bottom of the first, RF Keith Beauregard singled up the middle with two outs in the frame to plate the tying run. In the second, Worcester took the lead. An RBI single to center off the bat of CF Lucas Taylor put the Tornadoes in front 2-1, and they added two more runs to jump in front by three.
Guy settled in and did not allow another run in his six-inning outing. In the top of the sixth, the Rox cut the lead to a pair on Senjem's solo HR to right, his 13th of the season, the second best in the Can-Am League. In the eighth, facing RHP Chris Shank, Brachold led off with an infield single. He moved to second on a groundout, stole third, and scored on a 1B Francisco Lebron RBI single. PR Simon Williams pinch ran for Lebron and stole second but was stranded with two outs. The Rox went 1-2-3 in the ninth against LHP Dallas Mahan.
RHP John Kelly (8-2, 2.62 ERA) takes the ball for the Rox in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 against LHP Greg Montalbano (5-2, 1.29 ERA) for the Tornadoes.
