New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - New Jersey took an early lead, but Nashua's big second innings propelled them to their second straight victory over the Jackals, this time with a final score of 8-5

The Jackals wasted no time in getting to former big leaguer Dan Reichert. After recording the first two outs, Reichert surrendered a single to Alex Fernandez. The single extended the inning for Joey Gomes, who double into right-center field, to make it a 1-0 lead for New Jersey. They'd tack on another run in the second. Two batters after a leadoff triple by Joe Mihalics, Zack Smithlin brought him home on a single.

Although Jackals starter Aaron Myers kept the Pride at bay through two innings, they posted a five-spot on the scoreboard in the third. With two outs, Tommy Rojas crushed a grand slam to left. The following batter, Billy Becher, hit a solo shot to right, and out of nowhere, the Pride held a 5-2 lead. It marked consecutive nights in which Nashua collected back-to-back jacks. And in the fourth, they added two more runs, as they continued to light up Myers after the first time through the lineup. Tom Creighton collected an RBI single, and Larry Bethea added the second run on a sacrifice fly. After four complete, Nashua led 7-2, on seven unanswered runs.

Jayson Bass scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, to make the score 8-2.

The Jackals scored their first run since the second in the eighth inning via Joey Gomes' RBI single. And in the ninth, they would add two more runs. After a double, Mihalics scored on an error by Pride third basemen Andy Dillard. Jason Tuttle's RBI single made the score 8-5. The Jackals brought the tying run to the plate, in the form of Alex Fernandez, but Derrick Depries came in to close out the game, and he got Fernandez to ground out.

The loss went to New Jersey's Aaron Myers. Following his no-hitter last Sunday, Myers lasted only four innings, while allowed seven earned runs, five hits, two homeruns, and six walks. He also struck out four.

Dan Reichart earned the win in eight great innings of work. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits, while walking none, and striking out seven.
