Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TX - It was announced Monday that the Texas Rangers and Frisco RoughRiders have extended their Player Development Contract (PDC) through 2014.
The 'Riders have been the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers since 2003 when the franchise was relocated from Shreveport, LA. The RoughRiders, who won the Texas League Championship in 2004, have had great success as a Texas affiliate. The club won the Texas League's First Half South Division title this season, earning its fifth playoff berth in eight seasons as a Rangers affiliate.
"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with the Rangers," said RoughRiders' President/General Manager Scott Sonju. "It's been exciting to see the growth of their minor league system and witness firsthand the talent they have sent through Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. Our relationship with the Rangers allows fans in the Dallas Fort-Worth area the opportunity to see some of the brightest young stars in all of minor league baseball before they reach the major leagues in Arlington."
The Rangers also extended their PDC's with the Spokane Indians (Short Season) and the Hickory Crawdads (Single-A).
"The Rangers are very pleased to be able to continue our relationships with Frisco, Hickory, and Spokane," commented the club's Senior Director of Player Development Scott Servais. "The efforts of everyone at those three clubs have helped play into the organization's success over the last several years. We are happy to be going back."
The RoughRiders will host the first two games of the Texas League South playoffs at Dr Pepper Ballpark starting September 8th at 7:00.
