Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TX - It was announced Monday that former RoughRiders' starting pitcher Blake Beavan has been named the 2010 Texas League Pitcher of the Year.
The former first-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers started 17 games this season for the RoughRiders and was the club's Opening Day starter. During his time in Frisco, the Irving, TX native went 10-5 with a 2.78 ERA while striking out 68 and walking just 12.
Beavan, who was the Rangers' Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May, went 6-0 that month with a 2.23 ERA while walking four and striking out 28 in six starts. He was also the South Division's starter at the 2010 Texas League All-Star Game in Midland, TX.
On July 6th, Beavan earned his first ever promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City but never had the opportunity to pitch in a single game for the RedHawks. On July 9th, Beavan was part of one of the biggest major league trades of the season. The Rangers sent Texas first baseman Justin Smoak, Frisco second baseman Matt Lawson and pitcher Josh Lueke, along with Beavan, to the Seattle Mariners for pitchers Cliff Lee and Mark Lowe.
Beavan went on to make three starts with Double-A West Tennessee in the Mariners' organization before earning the promotion to Triple-A Tacoma where he is 2-2 with a 6.69 ERA over six starts.
