Lamb Named TL Pitcher of the Week

Starting pitcher John Lamb has been named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 23rd-29th, Texas League President Tom Kayser announced Monday. Lamb becomes the fourth Naturals' pitcher this season to take home Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors.

Ranked prior to the season as the Kansas City Royals' ninth-best prospect by Baseball America, Lamb was recognized for his dominating effort last Thursday in a road game against Springfield, where he did not allow a hit over 6 1/3 innings as the Naturals came within one out of tossing the franchise's first no-hitter. He walked three and fanned five in the outing.

Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 5th round of the 2008 draft, the southpaw has played at three different levels in the minors this season. He began the year in Class-A Burlington (IA), posting a 2-3 mark with a 1.58 ERA for the Bees. After making eight starts with the Bees, Lamb was promoted to Advanced Class-A Wilmington. Lamb was outstanding with the Blue Rocks, going 6-3 with a 1.45 ERA. Lamb struck out 90 batters, walked 15, and allowed 12 earned runs.

Lamb, the 20-year old resident of Laguna Beach, CA made his debut with the Naturals on July 31st and was leading all of minor league baseball in ERA at the time of his promotion. Overall with the Naturals, he is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA.

Andrew Brown from the Springfield Cardinals was named as the Texas League's Player of the Week.
