Arguello, Lyles Texas League All-Stars
August 30, 2010 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Pitchers Douglas Arguello and Jordan Lyles have been selected to the Texas League's 2010 Post-Season All-Star Team. Arguello and Lyles are the first Corpus Christi hurlers to be chosen to the honor squad since Troy Patton was named to the 2007 team.
Arguello, currently on the disabled list, leads the league with his 2.55 ERA and is one of six pitchers to record two complete games in the circuit. The southpaw was named the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week May 17-23 and chosen as Corpus Christi's pitcher of the month in May (4-1, 1.98, 5 starts).
In 22 starts for the Hooks, Arguello is 7-5. He's allowed 120 hits and 47 walks in 127.0 innings while striking out 100. Arguello has given up just four home runs this season, or one home run for every 31.75 innings of work. The veteran also ranks fifth in the league among starting pitchers in opponents' batting average (.254).
Lyles, just 19 years of age, is ranked by Baseball America as the top pitching prospect in the Astros' farm system. Despite his promotion to Triple-A Round Rock earlier this month, Lyles ranks fifth in the Texas League in ERA (3.12) and third in strikeouts (115). His strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio of 7.80 ranks third among all starters in the loop.
Lyles was selected as the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week June 14-20 and picked as Corpus Christi's pitcher of the month in June (1-2, 2.10, 5 outings). The teenager was the winning pitcher for the South Division in the Texas League All-Star Game June 30 at Midland and tossed an inning of shutout relief for the U.S. Team in its 9-1 win over the World Team in the XM All-Star Futures Game July 11 in Anaheim.
The Hooks have had at least one player selected to the league's Post-Season All-Star Team in all six years of the club's existence.
Balloting was conducted among league managers, broadcasters, selected beat writers and media relations directors.
