Rough Day for the Braves, Lose 19-7

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were routed by the Augusta GreenJackets 19-7 Sunday afternoon in the longest nine inning game of the season (3:19) in front of 2,069 fans.

The Braves thought they were in business in the first as they loaded the bases with no outs, but were unable to score. Augusta jumped on the scoreboard the next inning scoring six runs on six hits. After three straight singles to load the bases by Wes Hodges, Ben Thomas and Garrett Buechele, Joe Staley doubled to score Hodges and Thomas. Buechele later scored from third on a base hit by Brett Krill. Staley scored next as Kelby Tomlinson hit a sacrifice fly. The final runs of the inning would come on a two RBI single by Shawn Payne to plate Krill and Elliott Blair who had walked earlier in the inning. The Braves tried to dig themselves out of the six run hole in the bottom of the inning, plating three runs on one hit. The GreenJackets accumulated 13 runs and 18 hits from the fifth to the ninth inning to trounce the Braves by a final of19-7.

The GreenJackets broke two records on the way to a win, breaking the most hits in a game by an opposing team (24) and tying for most runs in a game by an opposing team (19). The Braves' Rafael Briceno (3-6) would get the loss giving up 11 of the 19 runs five innings. Augusta's starter Joe Biagini would only pitch three innings before being relieved by Derek Law (4-0) who notched his fourth win of the season.

The Braves travel to Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, GA to take on the GreenJackets for another three game series. They will return to State Mutual Stadium Thursday evening at 7 PM to take on the Savannah Sand Gnats in the final series before the All Star Break.
